GHAS on GHES POC Example Email

Hey _____ Team,

We sent an invite for _________. I’m sending over a list of steps you will need to do on your end, in order to start the GitHub Advanced Security trial on GitHub Enterprise Server. Take a look at this list, review it, and on the call we will answer any questions you may have and help ensure you have everything ready for the trial. Once everything is completed on this list, we’ll kick off the POC.

PreRequisites:

Make sure you are running a version of GHES 3.9 or higher. Please take a look at this documentation to ensure the version of GitHub Enterprise Server you want meets the requirements you need. Please confirm that you meet the minimum GitHub Enterprise Server infrastructure requirements for each deployment environment. This information can be found here. Have GitHub Actions self-hosted runners set up. This step is necessary to enable Code scanning and Dependabot security updates. Learn about and implement self-hosted runners here.

Before POC Kick-off Call:

Please refer to this Enable GitHub Enterprise Server + GitHub Advanced Security Trial gist for further information and explanation on all of these points.

  1. Your GHAS Trial License is available in your Enterprise Account under Enterprise Licensing in your associated GitHub Enterprise Cloud Enterprise:

https://github.com/enterprises//enterprise_licensing

  1. Download GHES w/ GHAS enabled trial license.

  2. Apply/Upload trial license to GHES instance.

  3. Enable GitHub Advanced Security features via the management console .

⚠️WARNING⚠️: This will restart the appliance to apply GitHub Advanced Security features.

🛑 IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Before the expiration date of your GitHub Advanced Security Trial, you will need to redownload and reapply your standard GitHub Enterprise Server license file. This is necessary to ensure the continuity of business.🛑

We will go over these steps on the call and help answer any questions you may have. Once all of the above steps are completed, we will be able to start on the POC. I will guide you through enablement for the GitHub Advanced Security features on your GitHub Enterprise Server.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you
